The World Has Turned And Left Me Here

This trip was one of my most spectacular.  I took photos from Colorado Springs to Los Angeles.  Wow.
It is spectacular. From about five minutes in, when we knew for sure that we were going to have the weather to go, the smile on my face just got bigger and bigger, and I was just beaming through the whole launch. I mean, it is just an amazing ride.

My America

I was just at the airport yesterday and it got me thinking about all the photographs I've taken while riding on airplanes.  Maybe the next few days I'll post some of my favorites.

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.

I think this looks like the perfect spot on a perfect-like day.

Reach for Eternity

How many times in a lifetime does a person get to experience this kind of a view?  I must say, this Bryce Canyon adventure left me breathless.  Wow.

People are so wonderful that a photographer has only to wait for that breathless moment to capture what he wants on film.

Mono Lake

Mono Lake (rhymes with "OH no") is the largest natural lake completely within the state of California. Once endangered when water feeding it was diverted toward the Los Angeles basin, it lost half its volume in the 40 years before an agreement was reached to save it. Today's Mono Lake is 7 vertical feet lower than the targeted level, and it could take well into the 2010's before it reaches that depth.

Moody and withdrawn, the lake unites a haunting loveliness to a raw desolateness.

Antelope Valley 2010

We were very fortunate as it was a beautiful spring in the Antelope Valley this year. We saw orange everywhere. Looking over the large fields and towards the mountains the view was stunning. I never get tired of this sight. It seems that this only happens every 5 or 6 years.

Hello Bryce Canyon

I visited Bryce Canyon a few years ago and now it's in my top two in the world of places I've been. In Bryce Canyon, erosive forces have created thousands of spires, pillars, and rocky temples, whimsically arranged within huge amphitheaters of red rock. These formations are smaller and more intricate than those seen at Zion and the whole feel of the park is more energetic and free-form. The views are spectacular.

It is named for the 19th century Mormon settler Ebenezer Bryce. Whether he actually uttered the well-known quote "hellavu place to lose a cow" regarding the canyon is open to debate.
